A South Sudanese volunteer doctor who provides free medical assistance to returnees at Paloch Airport in Upper Nile State says security operatives have shut down his clinic.
Doctor Robert Ayool Abiei said the facility used to receive 200 patients with chronic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure daily.
Dr. Ayool, a returnee who fled the fighting in Sudan, says he started the free emergency clinic eleven days ago with medical supplies from Dar Petroleum Operating Company.
However, he said security forces stormed his emergency clinic and closed it down early on Sunday without providing reasons.
“I woke up this morning to go to the clinic, and when I arrived at the gate of the airport, they order me to go back. The commander says this clinic is not allowed to operated here anymore. They didn’t give me any reason,” he said in an interview with Eye Radio.
Dr. Ayool said he has contacted the health authorities in Juba who promise to intervene.
“So, I tried to contact the undersecretary in the ministry of health and she promised to communicate with the commander who is in charge of the airport.”
“But up to now the clinic is shut down and unfortunately, there are some patients who are waiting for their drugs and I have no access to them in the airport.”
Paloch Airport Security Manager Major Wal Deng Mading is yet to respond.
