NBGS lawmakers impeach youth minister

Northern Bahr al-Ghazal State Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports, Angui Diing Diing, has been impeached by the Members of Parliament.

Last month, the lawmakers accused Mr Angui of absenteeism from work since he took office in 2014.

He also did not respond to the summons of the state assembly three times this month. All the 34 members who were in the state assembly voted to impeach the minister.

“The assembly of NBG passed the resolution after summoning the hon. Minister three times but refused to respond,” said Achak Thiep Thiep, chairperson of the information and public relations committee.

“So, the assembly has taken the decision that Hon. Angui Diing Diing has to stop from today as the minister.”

The MPs also said Mr Angui has never presented to the state assembly the policy of his ministry since his appointment.

Another member of the assembly, William Wel Deng, said MPs are now waiting for action from the caretaker governor.

“We’re going to include the governor because the governor is the implementing agent because when we pass any resolution against any member of the executive, then he is the one to implement all these,” Mr Deng said.

Attempts to reach the accused minister for comment have been unsuccessful.
