The Association for Media Development in South Sudan says plans to meet with National Security officials to discuss the circumstances under which The Citizen newspaper was closed.

The premise of the media organization, Free Voice, has also been closed. The two were closed on Monday over unclear reasons.

The Editor in Chief of the Citizen, Nhial Bol, says his paper might have been closed for publishing an article supporting the Compromise Agreement.

AMDISS now says it will meet the officials concerned to discuss the closure.

The chairman of the association, Mr. Alfred Taban, has called for cooperation and dialogue between the media houses and the government.

“This is very dangerous for the freedom of press in South Sudan and we are against this. If there’s any problem, they have to tell us so that we can have a dialogue,” Mr Taban said.

“We need to have a dialogue and tell us about the problems so that together we can find solution for this problem.”

Alray Arabic newspaper has also been closed. On Tuesday, the presidential press secretary told Eye Radio that he was not aware of closure of the media houses.
