Mundri E. starvation death toll rises to 8 – WE

The Commissioner of Mundri East County in Western Equatoria State says the death toll from starvation at a camp in the area has risen to eight in less than a week.

John Henry says that the victims are among thousands of people displaced to Lui area with in the county.

State officials said the IDPs fled conflict between an armed group in the area and the SPLA.

On Friday, five people had starved to death, but Mr Henry says the number is increasing.

He said five children and three adults have died of hunger since last week.

The commissioner has called for urgent humanitarian intervention.

“Total of eight people so far have been reported dead in Mundri East; five children and three adults,” he said,” Mr. Henry said.

“Right now the situation is that; food for the displaced people is not there, the need for food is paramount.”
