Morobo-Kajokeji bridge collapses

Author : | Published: Wednesday, August 6, 2014

The newly constructed bridge that is linking Morobo and Kajo-keji Counties of Central Equatoria state has collapsed.

The bridge which facilitates transportation and trade between the two counties collapsed early this Week.

“Now farmers from Morobo cannot able to take their goods to Kajo-Keji to sell  and Kajo-keji farmers cannot be able to bring goods to Morobo to sell their agricultural produce,” Moses Soro, Morobo County commissioner, told Eye Radio.

He said the bridge was not constructed using concrete materials.

“it’s unfortunate now it is broken; we hope that this people (construction company) have got insurance  so that they can rebuild it as soon as possible and make sure that it is built with concrete materials so that that it will not fall again.”

Commissioner Soro said the state government should investigate why the newly constructed bridge collapsed.

The bridge Morobo – Kajo-Keji Bridge was constructed by United Nations Office for Project Services, UNOPS, with help from the USAID.
