The young boy from Tonj East County whose appeal for medical assistance went viral on social media has successfully undergone urinary tract surgery and is now recovering in hospital.
According to a family member, Manyang Machar underwent the procedure yesterday and is expected to be discharged within 4 to 5 days, depending on his recovery progress.
Speaking to Eye Radio this morning, family member Matoch Chadar confirmed that the operation was successful and that Manyang is responding well to treatment.
“The operation took place yesterday morning at 11 and was successfully completed at 3. So, the boy is now recovering. Yesterday, the Secretary-General, Gen. Paul Akol Koordit, came to see the boy and the situation was stable, and everything went well after the operation. The tube has been removed,” he said.
He said doctors have removed the previous tube and completed the corrective procedure.
” The area where the tube was inserted has been closed, and another tube has been inserted into the penis. Now urine is coming through the penis into the tube. The expected discharge is within 4 to 5 days. It will depend on his recovery,” he added.
Manyang Machar arrived in Juba last Thursday for treatment after his video appeal attracted widespread attention and prompted well-wishers to support his medical care.
The successful surgery marks a major step in his recovery. Doctors are expected to continue monitoring his condition over the coming days before making a final decision on his discharge.
