Machar’s camp welcomes SS EAC admission

The SPLM in Opposition has welcomed the admission of South Sudan into the East African community.

On Wednesday, the regional economic bloc accepted the country’s application during its 17th Ordinary Summit of the East African Heads of State in Arusha, Tanzania.

In statement, the opposition led by Dr Riek Machar said ‘The admission shall assist South Sudan in the areas of capacity building, sharing of experience and trade’.

However, some analysts have criticized the move, saying it’s too early for the young nation to join the bloc because it doesn’t produce anything but oil.

On Thursday, SPLM-DC leader Dr Lam Akol told Eye Radio that the membership of South Sudan in the East African community will make the country a dumping ground for goods from the region.
