Lawyers go on strike over suspension of bar’s election

South Sudanese lawyers under the Bar Association have announced a one-day silent strike over the suspension their association’s election by the security agents.

Peter Mathias, spokesperson of the association, said the steering committee of the Bar Association made the decision yesterday. The lawyers will be in their offices today but will not work.

“The day was so sad and painful because of the intervention of members of police and security in the electoral process,” said Mr Mathias.

“Therefore, we cannot practice our work today. This was the decision of the Steering Committee of South Sudan Bar association.”

Mr. Mathias says they are still waiting for the responses of authorities over the suspension of their election.

The police did not comment on the suspension of the election and the strike.
