Lakes: Boat capsizes, 9 die

Nine people died last night after a boat capsized in the Nile River on its way to Mingkaman displaced camp in Lakes State.

The boat was transporting WFP food rations from Juba to Mingkaman to feed those displaced from last December’s conflict.

Angok Garang, the boat’s captain, said the boat was carrying 29 people, along with 1,200 Bags of sorghum.

Dut Macor, one of the crew members said 20 people survived the fatal accident.

He says among the dead were children and women.

Captain Angok Garang and some of the crew members have been taken into police custody for questioning.
