Kiir travels to Uganda

President Salva Kiir Mayardit traveled to Kampala this morning to hold bilateral talks with his Ugandan counterpart President Yoweri Museveni.

He is accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Kuol Manyang Juuk; Minister of Wild Conservation cum SPLM Acting Secretary; Jema Nunu Kumba; and the Minister in the office of the President, Mayiik Ayii Deng.

The President is going to discuss with President Museveni issues of bilateral relations between the two countries, told the press at Juba International Airport shortly before departure.

Juba and Kampala enjoy relatively strong political, cultural, and economic ties, according to political analysts.

As South Sudan neared independence, both states begun to take advantage of increased opportunities for trade, development and educational exchanges.

Uganda is also seen as a key player in the stability of South Sudan.

The President is expected to return to Juba tomorrow.
