President Salva Kiir on Sunday left for Djibouti to attend an IGAD tripartite meeting on regional peace and security, his office said.
The president was seen off at Juba International Airport by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar and other senior officials.
His office said Kiir will hold a consultative meeting with his counterparts President William Ruto of Kenya and Djibouti’s Ismail Omar Guelleh.
“Upon arrival in Djibouti, the three heads of State are expected to deliberate on issues of regional peace and security, particularly the ongoing conflict in the neighboring Sudan,” reads the press release published on the president’s Facebook page.
President Kiir will brief presidents Ruto and Omar on the unfolding situation as well as the progress made to de-escalate the fighting and open humanitarian corridors in the capital Khartoum.
Government Spokesperson Michael Makuei reportedly said Kiir will join the ordinary summit of the IGAD heads of the State and government “which will discuss a myriad of issues concerning regional peace and security.”
