President Salva Kiir paid tribute to late General Matur Chut, the former governor of Lakes State as a casket carrying his body was viewed before leaving Juba on Monday for burial in his hometown.
Matur, a veteran army commander, passed away in Juba on 23rd January, at the age of 70 years.
His elder brother told Eye Radio last week that the former governor, had been suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney and heart complications.
On Monday, Kiir, accompanied by First Lady Mary Ayen Mayardit, laid wreath to the casket of General Matur as the president joined mourners at Juba International Airport to pay homage to the veteran commander.
Before his appointment as Lakes governor, Gen. Matur had served in various capacities including, as Governor of the Defunct Western Lakes State in 2017.
He will be laid to rest in his hometown of Pachong, Rumbek East, Lakes State.
