Kapoeta County in South Sudan has agreed to share grazing land and water points with the nearest pastoral communities in Kenya and Uganda.
Authorities from the three countries met to discuss the long cycle of cattle raiding and grazing land disputes between the neighboring communities.
The Commissioner of Kapoeta East County Titus Lokwacuma says that the agreement is designed to bring peace to the region:
“We held the cross border peace conference to bring the Turkana and the Toposa from that corridor because we are now running shortage of rain and the two communities are now colliding in the small area where there is grass and water.”
Titus Lokwacuma also said that the countries agreed to ensure that looted cattle were returned to owners and that culprits were prosecuted.
