Kala-zar cases high in Akoka

Authorities in Akoka County of Upper Nile state have said that Kalazar is still the most common and dangerous diseases in the area.

Kalazar, also known as Visceral leishmaniasis, is a disease characterized by emaciation, anemia, fever, and enlargement of the liver and the spleen.

County Commissioner Daniel Yor Akech said many of the people admitted at the hospital are women and children.

Commissioner Yor said a medical team within the state is looking for ways to establish health centers that will use for treating Kalazar patients.

“According to them, they may open a center for admitting people here instead of taking people up to state headquarters.”

Kalazar is mostly spread through an insect vector, the sand fly.
