Justice ministry asked to present Bureau of Statistics Bill for enactment

The Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Justice to present the National Bureau of Statistics Bill 2015 to the parliament for enactment.

The bill will govern the agency which is mandated to conduct all censuses and surveys throughout the country.

It also collects, compiles, analyzes and publishes all statistical information on economic, social and general activities on the people of South Sudan.

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Michael Makuei spoke to the media after the regular meeting of the cabinet yesterday.

“It was earlier called the center for evaluation for statistics and evaluation and now it is the national bureau of statistics,” Mr Makuei said.

“So, this was presented and the cabinet approved and directed the minister to present to the national legislative assembly for enactment.”

The National Bureau of Statistics was established under Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan that came into force on 9th July 2011.
