Author : | Published: Friday, May 8, 2015

A two-day peace conference to reconcile the disputing communities of Juba and Terekeka Counties started today in Juba.

The conference is under the theme: ‘’Peace now to our people’’.

There have been series of clashes between the farming community of Juba and the cattle keepers from Terekeka in the past few months.

The farming community says the cattle destroy their farms.

The Governor of Central Equatoria, Clement Wani Konga, spoke in the opening session of the conference. He urged the participants talk about their grievances so that they can reach lasting peace.

“If you are dividing yourselves now….and the enemy comes, how you will help yourselves?” Governor Konga asked.

For his part, Enock Tombe, Bishop of Rejaf Diocese in the Episcopal Church of Sudan and South Sudan, welcomed the initiative.

“This conference is very important so that it can bring peace, especially to our people who have been at war for quite a long time….in which some of the have died,” Bishop Tombe added.

The Arch bishop of Catholic Arch Diocese of Juba, Paulino Lukudu, said the two communities can still coexist if the disputes are settled.
