Police in Juba have arrested more than 100 suspects during the Christmas period for alleged disorderly conduct aimed at disrupting public celebrations.
Major General James Madut Ngor, the head of Juba Operational Sectors and Director of ICT, told SSBC that the suspects include 16 members of the organized forces, three minors, and one girl.
Speaking yesterday, General Madut said the arrests followed a joint security operation carried out on Christmas Eve to curb criminal activities in Juba city.
According to police, the suspects were found in possession of illegal drugs and dangerous weapons, including machetes.
The items were allegedly used to terrorize communities and disturb Christmas celebrations.
General Madut said investigations are ongoing to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
“What we have found this 100 is that involved in criminal activities. We have arrested all of them, sixteen of the suspects are soldiers were arrested at night through joint operations by the security forces and the police. They are currently being held,” he said.
He added that the three underage suspects and one girl have been placed under care and are undergoing investigation.
