The Editor-in-Chief of the Juba Monitor says the Newspaper has not been shut down by the National Security despite official warning.
Alfred Taban says security officials had expressed concerns to the newspaper for publishing two articles that they considered inciting and irrelevant.
The opinion pieces were on the current conflict and development in Warrap state.
Taban says the Newspaper continued publishing after he apologized over the matter.
“The Juba Monitor was never closed down, not even for a day. What happened was that the security said Juba Monitor had run two articles which were completely wrong and misleading,” Mr Taban explained.
“These were opinion pieces. So the security said they were closing down the paper, unless if I as the Editor-in-Chief write an apology to them –which I did –and they accepted the apology, and the Newspaper has not stopped. So we have been publishing since that day.”
Last week, the Civil Society group, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization said the current conflict requires citizens to freely express themselves in order to reconcile the public.
