South Sudan and Sudan’s disarmament commissions have signed a communique to prevent arms from being acquired by civilians along the borders of the two countries.
The deputy chairperson of South Sudan’s National Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Commission told Eye Radio that the two sides have agreed to coordinate and share information on the disarmament programs.
“The communique was signed in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during a meeting that brought together the Disarmament Commissions of the two countries, the Bureau for Small Arms Control and Peace Commissions,” said Majur Mayor Machar.
“Mainly what was expressed in the workshop was that we need to have cooperation and work together in community security particularly among the bordering communities.”
Mr. Majur also said that the communique aims to increase effectiveness amongst the two sides in its disarmament and reintegration programs.
