A Memorandum of Understanding to form a technical committee to re-demarcate the border between the South Sudan and Uganda will soon be signed, Foreign Minister Dr Barnaba Marial has said.
The exercise would be carried out in the disputed area between Moyo in northern Uganda and Kajo-Keji in South Sudan.
On Monday, citizens of Moyo demonstrated over the failure of the national governments of the two countries to demarcate the Uganda and South Sudan border in Wanu.
The peaceful protests turned violent, forcing over 2,000 South Sudanese to flee the area.
Dr. Barnaba Marial says the move is to ensure there is a peaceful co-existence amongst the residents of the two areas. He says the two governments have condemned the clashes.
“We are asking our citizens both in Uganda and in South Sudan, please be at east let what is been done by any of the governments go smoothly,” said Dr Marial.
“We are going to sign a memorandum of understanding which will set the formation of the verification mechanism where the team will be there a technical team, that will use a technical means to verify where this is and that is.”
Ugandan Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, says a meeting will be held between Ugandan Third Deputy Prime Minister, General Moses Ali, and the Governor of Central Equatorial State, Clement Wani Konga.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in Moyo District in Northern Uganda tomorrow.
