JMEC applauds TGoNU over RPF approval

The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission has welcomed the decision by the South Sudan’s leadership to accept the deployment of the Regional Protection Force in the Country.

In a statement, the JMEC says the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Martin Elia Lomuro, had communicated to the other stakeholders, the progress of the agreement between the TGoNU and the United Nations on the matter.

The commission stated that according to the communication, “all outstanding issues” related to the deployment of the force were resolved between the two institutions and that the process could begin with immediate effect.

The JMEC notes that the deployment of the force is “critical to providing a secure and safe environment in Juba and creating an enabling environment for the implementation of the peace agreement”.

The other stakeholders involved in the process include the UN Mission in the country, and regional and international partners.
