Japan to construct a river port and drainage-Mingkaman

The government of Japan has announced a contribution of more than 4 million us dollars to construct a river port and drainage system in Mingkaman IDP camp in Lakes State.

The project will be implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services, UNOPS.

The drainage system is expected to improve sanitation for more than 100,000 internally displaced people in Mingkaman.

The Project Manager for UNOPS Aiko Hino says the port construction include offloading and storage facilities.

She said: “this project will beginning in April for one year.”

Ms Aiko says the river port will be used to deliver crucial humanitarian aid to IDPs and reduce food insecurity in Mingkaman.
