Ireland has pledged more than $3 million in humanitarian assistance to people displaced by the current conflict.
The money will be managed by the United Nations Common Humanitarian Fund for South Sudan.
The Irish Minister of State for Development, Seán Sherlock, says the money will be used to provide medicines, food and other vital supplies.
“Ireland is playing its part in this. We are working hard to support our UN and NGO partners working on the ground to protect vulnerable women and children, and to meet their food, nutrition and health needs,” said Mr Sherlock.
He says the political and the humanitarian situation in South Sudan is still fragile after more than a year of conflict.
The funding brings Irish government’s total funding to the South Sudan crisis to €14 million since the outbreak of violence in December 2013.
