IDPs in Lainya in need of more food assistance – CE

Author : | Published: Monday, October 19, 2015

Authorities in Central Equatoria State are calling on humanitarian organizations to provide food assistance to IDPs in Lainya County.

More than 11,000 people from Wonduruba and Katigiri have taken refuge in the area due to the fighting between the Government and the opposition forces.

The Director of Wonduruba Payam, Justin Stephen the World Food Program distributed some food items to the IDPs yesterday.

“The World Food Program is the only Organization that brought food assistance yesterday, but the food they brought is not enough and cannot last for one month. The food items they brought are maize, beans and oil”

But he says the food will not be enough for the large number of displaced people.

“…. that food is not enough and will not last for one month like what they said but it can help.”

Mr. Justin called on the State and the National Government to intervene in the situation in Wonduruba to enable the IDPs to return to their homes.
