IDPs assault 2 soldiers in plain clothes

Two SPLA soldiers in plain clothes were attacked and injured when they entered its Internally Displaced People’s camp at Jebel Kujur last week, the UN Mission in South Sudan has reported.

The soldiers were assaulted by residents in the camp on Thursday and detained that night.

The mission says the SPLA unnamed soldiers told it that they had entered the camp ‘at their own free will’.

“The two individuals informed UNMISS that they entered UNMISS POC site at their own free will,” Shantal Persaud, Spokesperson, told Eye Radio.

However, it’s unclear why the men entered the camp.

“After being rescued, they were given medical assistance by UNMISS force, and were then subsequently handed over to the national authority,” Ms Persaud added.

However, when contacted for a comment on the matter, the SPLA Spokesperson, Brigadier General Lul Ruai Koang said he was yet to receive a report.
