Grenade blast kills a boy in Aweil East

A 12 year old boy was killed when a grenade exploded in Northern Bhar el Ghazal state on Sunday.

Another boy aged nine years old was seriously injured in the in the blast in Aweil East County.

The two boys of Sudanese origin are thought to have been playing with a paper bag without knowing there was a grenade in it.

The village chief, Sultan Karac Mohammed said it killed the 12-year old instantly and cutting off the 9-year-old’s hand.

The victim is receiving treatments at Aweil hospital.

Sultan Mohammed called on the entire community of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State to monitor children constantly to prevent such incidents from happening.

One person has been arrested on suspicion of being the owner of grenade.
