Gov’t might withdraw its peace delegates in protest against Bentiu attacks

The government delegation might withdraw from the peace talks in Addis Ababa because of the ongoing fighting, an official has said.

Martin Majut Yak says the IGAD mediators should be clear on this matter, which he says is a complicated situation.

He stated that the government should call back its delegates to Juba as a protest to what he calls aggression by the SPLA in Opposition forces.

“I believe and I advise our government, the government of South Sudan that there should be a real protest by withdrawing the delegation and tell the international community that we are for peace but the rebels are not for peace,” said Mr Majut.

He accused the international community of what he calls ‘double standard’.

“The international community is playing double standard. And when Riek Machar attacks our positions, there is no clear condemnation of Riek Machar,” he said.

“Even the UN Security Council will give statement that the two parties are in the default.”

However, the Military Spokesperson of the SPLA in Opposition Forces, Brigadier-General Lul Ruai Koang, has announced they are continuing with the talks.

He said if the government is not interested in the talks, it is free to withdraw its delegation from Addis Ababa.

Yesterday, Colonel Philip Aguer said the SPLA in Opposition had attacked Rubkona.

However, Brigadier-General Koang says there have been fighting going on in Unity State this morning, but it has stopped.

No casualties have been reported in both clashes.
