Calm returns to Rumbek-East

Author : | Published: Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Authorities in Lakes State say calm has returned to Rumbek-East County following inter-communal clashes amongst the Kok sub-clan, which led to the killing of five civilians.

Four people were also injured during the fighting.

The acting State Minister of Information, Dhieu Wol, told Eye Radio that the incident was a revenge killing following the death of two chiefs in the area.

“This of course is retaliation for the killing of two chiefs who were killed last time. Security forces have separated these people and now the situation is calm in the area.” He said.

In August this year paramount chief, Apharaat Chut Doul, of Rombek East County was killed by unknown gunmen in his home town.

His death sparked revenge killings in various counties in Lakes State.
