The judges and justices who are on strike say the government has agreed to meet some of their demands during negotiations with the Presidential Advisor for Legal Affairs.

The chairman of Judges and justices committee, Khaild Mohamed Abdallha told Eye Radio that negotiations were going on so that they could reach an agreement as a full package.

More than 200 judges and justices from Upper Nile and Equatoria regions went on strike on Monday, saying they had not been paid salaries for three months and allowances for four years.

They said their working conditions were unfavorable, with poor infrastructure and lack of enough facilities, including stationeries.

In a statement, they also said that they lack means of transportation for the staff and for those being brought from prisons for court cases. However, less than 10 of them refused to take part in the strike.

Justice Khalid has told Eye Radio that some of the issues have been agreed upon, but he declined to name them.

“We are still following up the negotiations with the legal advisor of the president, and we hope this strike [will] be solved as soon as possible,” Justice Khalid stated.

The Presidential Advisor on Legal Affairs, Lawrence Korbany, has acknowledged the negotiations to Eye Radio but is yet to give the details.
