Gov’t forms a team to look into extension of UNMISS mandate

The Foreign Minister says South Sudan has formed a committee to look into extension of the UN mandate in the country.

Minister Barnaba Mariel Benjamin told Eye Radio’s morning program, the Dawn, that the committee includes officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ministry of Justice as well as other ministries.

Dr. Barnaba said the committee will present their report to the Council of Ministers in November this year.

Last week, the UN Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan to November 30, 2014.

The Security Council maintained the security strengths of the Mission to remain at 12,500 peacekeeping troops and 1,323, UN police.
