Gov’t distributes 800 tractors

The government says it distributing 800 tractors to the ten states before the rainy season.

The Minister for Cabinet Affairs, Dr Martin Elia Lomoro, says the tractors will be managed through the Food Security Council.

He says a previous approach of giving the tractors to individual farmers failed in 2009 because of poor management.

“Now we are going to establish what we call agricultural stations. These stations will be managed centrally through the Food Security Council so that the tractors can go to the fields as requested by a farmer or by group of farmers or by cooperatives,” Dr Lomoro said.

Dr Lomoro spoke at a workshop organized by the ministry of agriculture in Juba this morning.

Ministers of Agriculture from the ten states, representatives of the two administrative areas and experts participated in the meeting.
