Gov’t asked to set up GPS for 777

The mobile police unit, 777, wants the government to set up the Global Positioning System.

The GPS will trace phone calls and speed up rescue operations.

“There are no names on the streets. Also blocks; the houses don’t have the names and that is a difficulty to us,” said Lieutenant colonel Mangar Makeny, commander of operation for 777.

“We need to have GPS in our Cars so that we know your place through your telephone. We are using phone calls. When you call we divert calls to cars for emergency help until you get help.”

Mr Mangar says they will set up emergency phone call centers in Wau soon.

He says the mobile unit has twelve vehicles in Juba, which he says are not enough.
