Governors Forum adjourned to Tuesday

The 7th Governors Forum planned to take place in Juba on Monday has been postponed to tomorrow, November 28, 2023 as President Salva Kiir is reportedly busy.

That’s according to Mr. Micheal Majok, Director of Decentralization and Governmental Relations in the Office of the President.

The Governors’ Forum is an annual event organized since 2006 by the Office of the President with support from UNDP and other partners on policies that touch on the humanitarian, peace and development nexus.

Majok said the forum has been adjourned because the Head of State said he was engaged in other businesses.

“I just coming from his excellency president of republic Gen. Salva Kiir, and he said that he is busy today, he has a lot of work to do,” he told Eye Radio.

“As the result, the Governors Forum that was supposed to take place today to be postpone until tomorrow, because he will be here the president to open the governors’ forum.”

In 2022, the forum resolved that the UN lift the arms embargo on South Sudan to enable to government acquire weapons for the deployment of the graduated forces.

It also called for the organization and deployment of the forces across the states to mostly hot spot areas among many other resolutions.

Unlike, the last one, this year’s forum under the theme: Fostering National Cohesion: South Sudan path to peaceful transition for democratic governance.” focuses on the upcoming elections.
