The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State has directed the State High Elections Committee to begin civic and voter education across all counties ahead of the December 2026 general elections.
Governor Louis Lobong Lojore issued the directive today while launching the office of the State High Elections Committee in Torit, according to a statement from his office.
Lobong described the opening of the office as an important step towards preparing the state for peaceful, credible, and democratic elections.
He urged the elections committee to ensure citizens understand their constitutional rights and actively participate in the electoral process.
The governor directed the committee to conduct civic and voter education across all counties, payams, and bomas to ensure eligible voters understand the electoral process.
Lobong called on the committee to carry out its duties with professionalism, independence, transparency, and impartiality, stressing that all eligible citizens should be registered without discrimination.
He also urged political parties to conduct peaceful campaigns free from violence, intimidation, and harassment.
The governor appealed to security institutions, traditional leaders, religious leaders, civil society organizations, youth, women, and the media to support efforts for peaceful, free, and credible elections.
He further called on citizens to reject violence, hate speech, tribalism, and division, and instead promote dialogue, tolerance, the rule of law, and national unity.
The launch ceremony was attended by state government officials, members of the State High Elections Committee, civil society organizations, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, and other political stakeholders.
