Gonzaga (Rumbek) beat Tiger (Kuacjok) 2-1 to cruise to South Sudan cup semifinals

Gonzaga FC of Rumbek were crowned the champions of Zone A in the South Sudan National Cup qualifiers on Thursday after defeating Tiger United FC of Kuacjok 2-1 at Aweil Freedom Square.

Gonzaga scored in the 37th minute of the first half before doubling their lead in the 50th minute of the second half.

Tiger United then netted in towards the end of the match to put the score at 2-1.

Gonzaga have now joined Elmeriekh FC Bentiu and Wanding FC of Nasir as qualified teams to the semifinals of the South Sudan National Cup.

The Rumbek men had defeated Rome FC (Wanyjok) on a 2-1 aggregate after playing out a 1-1 draw at home before beating them 1-0 away.

However, Tiger United FC made their way to the final of Zone A league after humiliating Sika Adid FC (Aweil) in a 4-0 aggregate victory.

Both Zone A and B losers Jamus FC Juba and Tiger FC Kujock are heading for playoff on February 12, 2024, at Buluk Playground and the winner will join the semi-finalists.

The final of the South Sudan Cup tournament will be played in Juba on February 24, 2024, and the champions will earn a 20,000-USD-prize.

The runners-up shall have 7,000 USD, the third position-holders will receive 3,000 USD and the fourth Place will gain 1,000 USD.
