Gogrial gets special court to solve sectional disputes

A special court has been established Gogrial State to resolve disputes between two communal sections that have been engaged in deadly conflicts, an official has said.

The Apuk and Aguok communities have been fighting each other in revenge, and over issues that include marriages.

Governor Abraham Gum says the seven-judge court will try people suspected of instigating violence.

“They are ready to start their duty starting from tomorrow,” Mr Gum told Eye Radio.

He added that executive chiefs from both sides will be involved in all the cases.

The two communities started fighting each other between 2005 and 2006. A similar conflict sparked by local dispute resumed again in 2014. And the latest clashes left about 19 people dead last year.
