Gogrial East, Jur communities told to Keep off border issues

The Governor of Lakes State has urged the communities of Gogrial East County and neighbouring Jur River County to distance themselves on territorial boundaries, citing it is the responsibility of the Council of States.

Governor Rin Tueny made this call during a visit to the state along with  General Awet Akot. They accompanied Kuol Muor Muor, Governor of Warrap State to Luony’Akeer of Gogrial East County on Thursday.

Lake state Governor. Rin Tueny Mabor said the mandate of the Council of States is the demarcation of state and county boundaries.

” We have warned the Chiefs and the Public in the area that they should not attempt any issue on the demarcation of the local land boundaries within the Payams counties and the state.

“The issue of the boundaries is the full responsibility of the Council of State and nobody should tempter with it. We have appealed to communities to be peaceful and reconcile,” he said.

Governor Rin Tueny warned whoever is found exercising such an act will be met with the full force of the law.

On his part, the Governor of Warrap State Kuol Muor Muor assured that the two states will witness security stability at the end of January 2024.

” We need peace among ourselves and our neighbors we came here as a delegation of peace and I am sure from the moment of our departure the area there will be no more conflict here between communities in Warrap and Western Bahr el Ghazal State,” adding that “at the beginning of January or the end of it, the states will be stable. 

In November 2023, the local authorities in Warrap State’s Gogrial East County and the neighboring Jur River County of Western Bahr El Ghazal State decried soaring relations between the communities of the two counties due to border disputes.

The inhabitants of the two counties have been feuding over the ownership of some areas along their common border.
