The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has encouraged the public to disregard what it calls baseless rumors circulating on social media regarding the alleged closure of the South Sudan Embassy in Port Sudan.

In statement on social media, the ministry clarified that the South Sudan Embassy in Port Sudan and the Sudanese Embassy in Juba remains fully operational.

Additionally, the foreign ministry statement explained that the two governments are actively working together to address the recent developments in Wad Madani which was captured by the Sudan army.

This came after reports of atrocities against South Sudanese refugees in Sudan’s Wad Madani City allegedly by the Sudanese Army Forces.

The gruesome videos of killing have raised concern about the safety of thousands of South Sudanese nationals who have been stranded in the war-torn neighboring country.

Amb. John Samuel Bowgo, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, also confirmed that the embassy is operational in a press briefing on Wednesday after meeting the Sudanese envoy to Juba Isam Mohamed Karrar.

“Our embassy has been instructed to write to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Khartoum requesting opportunity to visit Al Jazira,” he said.

“As the government in Sudan, they need to find guarantees that whenever a diplomat goes to that area, they’re secure. We know that it’s secure, but we cannot jump in.”
