Faris confirms his dismissal

The director of the national television has confirmed to Eye Radio that he was sacked on Tuesday by his boss, the Minister of Information.

Adil Faris was relieved five days after being held in a security facility for about 10 days.

In an interview with Eye Radio this evening, he said he had written two resignation letters before he was arrested; but he couldn’t explain why.

“I’ve received a letter from Michael Makuei, the minister of information and telecommunications in South Sudan, relieving me from my position as Director of South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation,” he said.

“I’m really thankful to him and also the government of my country for their confidence on me to manage this very sensitive institution during very difficult circumstances.”

When contacted by Eye Radio this evening, Michael Makuei declined to speak, saying it was “an administrative issue”.

But on Tuesday last week, the Committee to Protect Journalist quoted Faris’ wife Amira Alnahawi as saying that she believed security agents arrested her husband for failing to air a live state of the nation speech by the President on July 9.
