The speaker of the East African Legislative Assembly has urged the heads of state of the bloc to speed up their efforts in resolving the conflicts in South Sudan and Burundi.
Daniel Kidega says the two countries have experienced political turmoil and violence resulting into the death of hundreds of people and wounding many others as rival groups fight for power.
This came during a meeting with the President of the senate of Rwanda, Bernard Makuza in Kigali Rwanda on Monday.
The Assembly senior Public Relations officer, Bobi Odiko, said the two leaders emphasized the need for peace and security in the region and that it’s necessary for the bloc to realize its objectives.
On Monday, the IGAD plus called on the UN Security Council to urgently extend the mission of UNMISS with a revised mandate including the deployment of the Regional Protection Force in South Sudan.
