A controversial South Sudanese scholar and politician, Dr. Wani Tombe Lako Lokitari, has been found dead in a hotel in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
The late Tombe remained in exile following the independence of South Sudan. He has been living in Khartoum, and teaching in some universities there.
Dr. Wani said he remained in Khartoum because the government of South Sudan refused to issue him citizenship documents, passport and nationality documents, because of his political opinions.
Dr. Wani, a Bari from Juba, who belonged to the Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party, was a staunch critic of the SPLM and the Government of South Sudan.
He criticized the SPLM is his latest book “The Republic of South Sudan after one year of existence”, which was published on 3rd September 2012.
The Editor-in-Chief of the Juba Monitor Newspaper, Alfred Taban, with whom they married from the same family, confirmed to Eye Radio the news of the death of Dr. Wani Tombe.
Alfred says although people suspect that Dr. Wani died of diabetics and high blood pressure, the causes of his death are not yet known because the autopsy reports are not yet released.
He said the body of late Wani Tombe body was found on Sunday, and has been flown to London for a post-mortem examination.
