South Sudan and China have signed a deal to print 1.3 million primary and secondary school textbooks.
Deng Deng Hoc, Minister of General Education and Instructions, said the agreement was signed in Juba last week.
He was talking to the media on the sidelines of the closing session of the Joint-Education Sector Review on Friday.
“Some of text books will be based on the current curriculum, but the majority will be textbooks based on the new national curriculum,” Mr Hoc said.
Mr Hoc said the printing of the books will start immediately after a workshop with the publishers.
He said the cost has not been discussed, but the Chinese government will pay the publishers directly.
Besides, the Chinese Government will train “300 staff of the ministry as well as the staff of the state ministries”.
“This will include curriculum developers, school inspectors and school managers or school head teachers,” he added.
