Civil groups hold discussions with AU Envoy

Civil society organizations are holding a two-day meeting with the African Union High Representative for South Sudan.

The meeting with Alpha Omar Konaré will be held in Juba to discuss the IGAD power sharing proposal.

The director of CEPO, a local civil society organization, says the aim of the meeting is to find area of compromise in which the warring parties could find a lasting solution to the conflict.

“So we as civil society want to come up with another idea; that is, compromises must happen and where compromises are needed,” said Edmond Yakani.

“And these compromises are for the interest of people of South Sudan, and it is also for the stability in South [Sudan].”

Mr. Yakani says after the meetings with African Union Representative, civil society representatives for all over the country they will go and inform the public about the proposal through the media.
