South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority has received equipment to help planes land at Juba International Airport.

The equipment, VOR and DME, were donated by the Turkish government.

The Director of Civil Aviation, Brigadier General Kur Kuol told Eye Radio ‘Sundown Program that the equipment will improve safe-landing at the airport.

“The equipment will help replace the faulty ones that the aviation authority have had for the last few years,” said Brigadier General Kur.

He said the Turkish Aviation Authority is also training civil aviation staff from South Sudan on how to operate the equipment.

VHF Omni Directional Radio Range – VOR – is a type of short-range radio navigation system for aircraft, enabling aircraft with a receiving unit to determine their position and stay on course by receiving radio signals transmitted by a network of fixed ground radio beacons.
