The Juba City Council is tarmacking the road leading to the Vatican Embassy in Juba Na bari in preparation for the coming of Pope Francis and other faith leaders.
In a press statement yesterday, the City Council said, it has contracted the African Resource Cooperation Company, ARC, to build the road from Kololo Junction to the Embassy, in addition to other clean-up initiatives.
Central Equatoria State Governor proposed last year to have the road named after His Holiness, Pope Francis.
Mayor Michael Ladu Allah-Jabu told the media yesterday that the road will be completed and ready for use within five days.
Allah-Jabu also appeals to Juba residents to start cleaning their homes and surrounding areas, ahead of the visit of the three global religious leaders.
The citizens are also advised against throwing garbage randomly in the middle of roads or sidewalks as well as using their cars to travel along certain areas exempted from the public.
Pope Francis will finally make his trip to the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan from January 31st to the third day of February.
The 85-year-old Pontiff will visit the two countries alongside the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
Similar clean-up campaigns are taking place in the DRC capital Kinshasa.
