Kapoeta authorities recover five girls found wandering in bush

Authorities in Kapoeta North County of Eastern Equatorial State have recovered five girls including a baby who were found wandering  in the jungle trying to locate their  parents.

According to Emmanuel Lolimo, the county commissioner, their parents had migrated from one cattle camp to another in search of pasture and water, leaving them behind.

Left alone, the children followed  their parents’ foot marks when they got lost in the wilderness.

“The children were left behind, then in the morning they followed foot marks of the animals to the new settlement. On their way these ladies got lost, they were actually 11 of them, five of them lost their direction and the rest also lost their direction separately,” he confirmed the incident to Eye Radio via a phone call on Saturday.

The county official said some hunter youth from Budi found the girls wandering in the bush last week on Thursday.

He said the youth from Laarim community in Budi County then took the children along with them.

Commissioner Lolimo said he went to Kayerekoel cattle camp where the children were kept and retrieved them.

“In the process of hunting, the Budian youth met these ladies and tried to talk to them and  the ladies said they got lost and inquired the direction to their community.

“So generously, these Budian youths took care of these ladies and they gave me the information that’s where I went there yesterday (Friday) and they were able to handover these girls,” he added.

According to Lolimo, the initiative taken by the Budi youth was a gesture of peace and unity between the two communities.

Mr. Lolimo emphasized the need for cooperation and peaceful co-existence  between the neighboring two communities.

 

11 killed, 9 wounded in Warrap cattle raiding

At least eleven people were killed and nine others wounded in a cattle raiding in Gogrial East County of Warrap state by  gunmen allegedly from a neighboring state over the weekend, according to the authorities.

Warrap Information Minister said the attackers suspected to have come from Mayom County of Unity raided a cattle camp in Wagej village of Gogrial East County on Saturday.

The incident, Mr.William Wol said, resulted in the loss of eleven lives, and wounding of nine others.

He alleged that the raiders – some of whom were dressed in army uniform made away with 532 heads of cattle

” Yesterday (Saturday), on 16th of this month, suspected armed youth from Mayom attacked place called Wagej area of Gogrial East County in Wararp State killing eleven civilians and wounding nine civilians of Gogrial East, and raided 532 heads of cattle,

“We are suspecting this cattle raiders are people in uniform, they mixed themselves with civilians, so this is the incident that had happened,”  he said.

According to Wol, the state authorities contacted their counterparts in Unity State over the deadly raid, but there has not been any positive response.

” We had contacted our counterparts in the government of Unity, and they said that they would try to monitor the situation and intervene quickly.

However, he said  “up to this (Sunday) morning, there was no any response or any good news from the side of unity state.

Wol appealed to Unity State government to ensure the culprits are held accountable and the raided cattle return to their rightful owners.

When contacted, Unity State Government Spokesperson David Gai said he was yet to get back after a prayer service.
