The bodies of a South Sudanese soldier and a herder have been returned from Uganda and buried in Kajo-Keji County following talks between officials from Central Equatoria and Uganda’s West Nile region.

Central Equatoria State Minister of Trade and Industry, Mawa A. Moses, said the bodies had been kept in Uganda’s Yumbe District following separate incidents along the border.

He said one of the deceased was a South Sudanese soldier who was killed about nine months ago, while the other was a herder who died in a clash with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, UPDF.

Mawa said the bodies were handed over following a recent meeting in Kajo-Keji between Central Equatoria officials and representatives from Uganda’s Moyo and Yumbe districts.

“One of the resolutions was that the bodies of our soldiers one soldier who was killed long time ago about nine months ago, the body was detained in Uganda. And then one body of a herders who clashed with the UPDF at the border. The body was also detained in the Uganda district of Yumbe,” he explained.

He said the bodies were later taken to Kajo-Keji and buried at the barracks.

“The two bodies were detained in the Yumbe. And as a result of that meeting, the following day we received the bodies and they were laid to rest in Kajo-keji at the barracks,” he said.

The minister was speaking after briefing Acting Governor Paulino Lokudu on the outcome of the meeting, which reviewed the implementation of the Arua resolutions.

The resolutions were reached on 25 July 2026 during a reconciliation meeting in Arua City, Uganda, aimed at addressing tensions along the South Sudan-Uganda border.
