Bishop Poggo gets new job

The Bishop of the Episcopal Church in Kajo-keji, Yei River State, has been appointed as a new advisor to the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Bishop Anthony Poggo, who is replacing a retired colleague, will advise Archbishop Justin Welby on Anglican Communion Affairs.

Mr Poggo will be based at the Lambeth Palace in London where the communion affairs are administered from.

His appointment was approved by the Arch Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the South Sudan and Sudan, Daniel Deng Bul.

“This I believe is also an honor to the ECS and to South Sudan and Sudan, and also as a nation because, this is a very crucial role within the Anglican Communion,” Bishop Pogo told Eye Radio.

“I’m very happy that the archbishop was here and also the people have reluctantly accepted this appointment.”

Several ECS Bishops from across Africa had competed for the position.

Bishop Poggo, whose family will be based in London, is urging the ECS community in Kajo-keji to remain united after leaving them for the new assignment.
