Nyamlel woman sets alcoholic husband on fire over pension

Police in Northern Bhar El Ghazal state have detained a woman for allegedly setting her husband on fire while sleeping on Thursday morning.

Captain Guot Guot Akol, the state police spokesperson told Eye Radio, that the incident happened in Nyamlel of Aweil West County.

According to the suspect, the husband came home drunk before he physically assaulted her, the police said.

Captain Guot says the 35-year-old woman who is fed up with her alcoholic husband’s behavior decided to set the house on fire.

This, according to the police, happened after a woman started quarreling with her husband overspending pension money on alcohol.

Captain Guot says the 45-year-old husband survived the ordeal after his son called for help.

“What happened exactly around 5:45 this morning the accused lady aged 35 set her house on fire when her husband was sleeping,” Captain Guot told Eye Radio.”

According to her, the reason for setting her house on fire was because after her husband retired from his security job with Warriors Security, he decided to use his pension money on alcohol and quarrel with him. So she decided to get rid of him.”

Captain Guot says a criminal case has been filed against the accused.
