AU rejects the leaked report on South Sudan crisis

The African Union says the leaked report about South Sudan that has been published in the media does not belong to its commission of enquiry.

The chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, says the enquiry into the current conflict has not released any findings.

Dr Zuma says the leaked report is not the genuine African Union Commission report compiled on the South Sudan war.

AU made the revelation minutes back in a social media, Twitter message.

In the tweet, the Chair said “the so-called ‘report’ leaked is NOT that of the AU Commission of Inquiry on South Sudan”.

The report that is said to have been leaked from the African Union has been circulating on the internet.

It quotes former and current senior government officials testifying about the killings in Juba at the outbreak of the conflict in December 2013.

The report recommends that South Sudan should be placed under a transitional leadership of the African Union for five years.

Within this time, oil proceeds would be paid into an account overseen by the Africa Development Bank.

The money would be used to meet government expenses, including paying an African Union force that would provide security under UNMISS.

The Commission of Enquiry submitted its report to the AU heads of state and government in January, but the AU Peace and Security Council postponed the publication of the report.
